Dog Behavior Problems
All dogs at some point it their lives will have behavior problems. You will find it more common in puppies, but their problems are more of playfulness and disobedience because of inadequate training. You need to understand that the dog behavior ‘problems’ are no problems for the dog or the puppy. The dog’s little problem causing behavior like digging up the garden, going through the trash, barking, chewing on things are most likely a fun and playful thing for the dog.
When you notice your dog has a behavior problem, then you have to take some steps to correct these problems, because if there is no discipline, it can end up being a problem for you later and chances are that the dog will become aggressive.
Prevention
The first thing to do when you are trying to stop your dog’s problematic behavior is to make sure that you do not create any more problems in the bargain. Your dog needs a routine. He needs to have a proper balanced diet, he needs plenty or exercise and he needs discipline. At the same time if you are confining your dog for long periods of time or you do not know how to handle him, you can end up over-exciting or frightening your dog. This is also a base for behavior problems. All these problems can be prevented.
Teach
Teaching your dog some discipline can prevent unwanted behavior problems. You need to define what kind of behavior you want from your dog. Do you want a watchdog, or a housedog? According to this, you can teach and train your dog. You can teach your dog to sit. This is the most basic command that a dog has to learn. When you do not want your dog to do a particular thing, like try to get scraps from under the table, or jump on people’s laps then you can command him to sit. Remember that when your dog does sit, you give it a treat so that it know it is doing the right thing, and obeys you in the same fashion later on.
Practice
You cannot deal with behavior problems of your dog by just thinking that
they will go away. You need to start training your dog and teaching it some
discipline to make sure your dog does not continue with bad behavior. You
need to persevere and be committed to training your dog. There is no single
way, in which you can solve your dogs behavioral problems; you need to be
creative about it.
